Imagine the funniest baby sensory class you’ve ever been to! Instead of food shakers and paints, think buttercream and splashing water! I find that I get a complete 50/50 of some babies that dive straight in, face plant.. No holding them back, and then there’s the delicate ones that are a little unsure and tend to take the gentle approach. But that’s totally fine! Depending on how confident they are I'll gauge how slow to take the beginning of the cake smash shoot.. Sometimes we can go straight into it with no hesitation and other times we’ll spend 15-20 minutes playing with some toys so that your little one can get used to me and their new surroundings at the studio in Essex.
I like to split the session into 3 parts, starting with some regular portraits without the cake first... It’s nice to have a few shots of your little one in your favourite outfit on them before they get too messy. Then onto the really fun part where your baby is free to smash away at the cake, followed by splashing and bubbles in my vintage tin bath. This really is such good fun and I can capture some great shots as your baby splashes away! You’ll also have a nice clean baby before heading home :)
